I am wondering if anyone has cut magnetic sheets for refrigerator magnets?
I have a specific shape I want to make but don't know if cutting magnetic material is something I should do!
I plan to print the sheets first then cut with laser.
Thanks, Michael

I have not. But I did a little bit of looking online. "Standard Flexible Magnetic Sheeting" (refrigerator magnet material) from Magnum Magnetics contains vinyl, which is probably polyvinyl chloride. This would not be safe to laser due to the production of hydrochloric acid (HCl).

Another Google search found an MSDS for magnetic sheet from Bakker Magnetics, and it contains a chlorinated polyethylene. The MSDS shows that one of the products of combustion (and remember that lasering is essentially making a small, controlled fire) is hydrochloric acid. So again, this material would be unsafe to laser.

Thank you for the information, I won't be cutting with the laser.

I did ask a few days ago in another thread about the Curie point causing issues. Magnets and in particular flexible sheet magnets don't like heat. This is seen with some of the heated beds on 3D printers failing much over 70C let alone Laser cut edges. There is higher Temperature magnets available but bottom of the barrel priced items are not that.

BUT

Seems you can buy a self adhesive one 'rated' for Laser cutting https://www.jpplus.com/12-x-24-025-magn ... h-adhesive
The Magnetic Sheet does not produce harmful out gassing and has a top quality acrylic self-adhesive.
The MSDS is an absolute joke  http://s3.amazonaws.com/jpmagento-publi ... csheet.pdf
