Magnetic sheet

I've been asked to produce some magnetic name plates and I'm a bit wary of how to do it. Can I ask if any of you have done this before and, if so, your process?

I have checked the pdf here on 'materials to laser' and it says magnetic sheet is fine but I'm worried about the crackling noises and smell that's coming off it during the process.

Basically, I'm trying to engrave and cut out names on to 3mm coloured acrylic with a 1.5mm self-adhesive magnetic sheet backing. I've, tentatively, tried attaching the magnetic sheet on to the acrylic and cut at a selection of slower speeds but I'm not fully getting through the magnetic layer. Persevere and lower the speed? or would you cut them separately and then join? Or should I not be lasering this at all - are there different types of magnetic sheet?

I don't think I'll risk it again! Time to get out the craft knife and put them on after the acrylic's done.

I wouldn't write it off but as per the other thread you would want to be very sure of the actual make up and safety data.

I suspect a lot of it is die cut rather than Laser Cut so some of the sign writers here might like to comment? Thinner sheets may be possibly be cut by a sharp blade in a drag knife/cnc table too. I would need most likely to be more gutsy than the average vinyl cutter but the same knives should do it. I did some playing on one of the cheap and cheerful 3020 Ali Express CNC's and it handled thicker card so even lighter pressure and 2 or 3 passes should work.

Still worth looking at I reckon re Laser.

Mag sheeting comes in different thicknesses and strengths. It is very heavy and hard to get to move thru a vinyl cutter but you do not have to cut thru it [and you would not want to, as it would fall to pieces as cut] but if scored, it will break cleanly. Scissors are often the best tool for cutting. Unless it is specifically labeled for laser cutting [which I have never seen] I would not laser cut.
