My short term objectives are to read and learn as much as I can, as I'm considering building my own machine. Nearly 8 years ago I successfully built a custom router-based CNC. I read up on the topic and learned that most people who build/buy almost immediately begin upgrading the machines, as the cheaper "introductory parts" do not perform as well as desired. My takeaway was to start with the "upgrades" rather than buy parts twice (ie NEMA 34 steppers instead if the cheaper NEMA 23's).
I'm hoping to educate myself on the pitfalls and lessons learned from the forum members experience in order to start out with a machine that both performs and is reasonably economical.
