Not something I enjoy doing. Familiar with CNC, have two gantry style g code systems. so RD works is a bit foreign and a bit familiar. My new red 700 x 500 100w machine has been here only a couple of days. I worked through the x axis not working when I found a loose wire. I got to the stage where I could power up the laser only to have it not power up. No power to the laser power supply. So I'll chase that down tomorrow. I suspect I'm about as old as Russ, only not smart enough to have a retirement plan that could survive a recession. So I'll be working forever. (would have anyway).

Actually I have several other cnc machines, a wide format (60") and a vinyl cutter/plotter plus some other printers that have servos and steppers in them

I bought a old building for my shop and ended up with a small apartment in it. So instead of having a shop in my house I have a house in my shop.

I'm looking forward to putting the laser to work. I have some business that will come my way as soon as I can produce a product.

Everything I learned about cnc, pcb's, embedded controllers, and more has been through forums and before forums, on bulletin Boards. We called them BBS's. So I'm glad to be part of this new to me community. Hopefully I can contribute in some way here too.

Welcome Jim. You bviously have plenty of experience with similar machines in that you operate CNBC’s.
I would recommend designing in software you are familiar with and using RDWorks to assign power and layer info for scan or cut. It is a terrible design software.

It imports ai files nicely without loss of detail. Russ uses dxf but found he was losing some detail with small parts.
