New to laser engraving/cutting. I just installed a new tube and im doing some test engraving and im only getting 5 milliamps max. Its my understanding that i dont want to go over 28MA but it won't go any higher than 5 ma.

you should check the rating of your PSU? is it powerful enough for your tube? also, some PSU have a dial or knob to adjust the max power, you could check this.

how do you measure your current? are you sure of your meter? while engraving if the image is in greyscale, the power will vary from 0 (white pixel) to max (full pixel), but so quickly that your ammeter will do a wild mean, that could explain the low value --> is this the same when you do a cut? when cutting a long straight line, the current should be very stable and can go up to the max of your PSU/tube.

there is also a setting where you set a maximum power on the machine, and this power is not overpassed, whatever the settings in your layer. i can't remember, maybe this is something like "max output" in rdworks layer settings..
