Greetings from Down Under. Until recently I've been using a communal laser at a maker space, am now looking at purchasing one for my very own and am researching the various models of Ruida controllers before deciding what to buy. Details in my profile are of the model I'm currently contemplating.
When I get it, I'll definitely be backing up the vendor settings before screwing around with anything

Welcome Dale- we always greet people with the advise that they backup their machine files... so you are ahead of the game already. The 6442 controller is the most common Ruida and does a great job- the other one you may encounter is the 6445 which is the newest version and slightly improved, but it takes a couple years to work out all the wrinkles sometimes. Ask any questions you may have and we will try to help. Gene
