Hi,

I've been wanting a laser cutter since ~2007. I've built a couple 3D printers and CNC routers since then and the Covid pandemic triggered the lauch of my laser cutter diy projet. I'm here because after receiving so much valuable information from the community, I felt I had to try give some back!

I'm building a machine based on the Y400 from Rob @ Further Fabrication. The machine is stretched to a cut area of 900mm x 500mm and powered by a Cloudray CR90 tube. Originally, I was planning on using an Openbuilds Blackbox controller (leftover from a CNC project) but I'm thinking about switching to a Ruida.

As of today, I'm waiting for aluminum panels to be laser cut for the enclosure.
Here a photo of approximately where I am in the build process:

Accessories: I have a combining lenses, pin tables [homebuilt], honeycomb tables , wireless remote, Modifed Ultimate Air Assist, home built non-powered rotary device, PrusaMK4 and Mini Prusa printers.

The Ruida is a great choice- they now have econo-controllers that do not have a U or Z axis if that suits you. Good luck with your build- there are several of these machines in process with our members. If you build it, you will have most of the knowledge necessary to operate it. Gene
