I am having trouble opening Russ's dxf files in Inkscape... they will not open at all. I can get them to open in Fusion 360 but is says dimensional data is missing.

Do you have any tips for this newb on how to open and manipulate Russ's dxf files?

All the best,
Dave

I am not familiar with Inkscape [just looked it up] I have problems with DFX files as well- often come into SAI Flexi as line segments that are not attached. They seem to come into Fusion 360 OK- and scaled correctly- you do need to know if the file was created in inches or mm. I try to avoid dfx unless they are necessary. I am guessing it is the import filter in Inkscape. especially free programs are often flawed, you pay with your time and patience. Gene

All of Russ's dfx files must be reduced after import. Russ purposely enlarges because of issue he has experienced with DFX format when importing small details.
Typically they must be reduced by a factor of 100

Tell me which files and I will see what I can do for ya.

Thank you Peter. I was trying to begin work on the new, lightweight mirror 3 and lens holder, MK2. Hopefully I can attach the 3 files. I downloaded from laseruser.com site for the K40. If I can open them, then I can revise as necessary.

Your info on size reduction is priceless!

Thank you again,
Dave

Thank you Peter. May I ask what package you were able to open them with?

If you can do .svg that would be great. And if it is not too much of a bother, perhaps a dxf file from your software with the scaling "fixed" to the appropriate size?

As you said, the freeware programs often are bugsy, and may work with a different vendors dxf file structure.

All the best,
Dave

Factor of 100, Pete? 1 to 100?

I used a program called Aspire to open the files you sent - it is modeling software for CNC.
I also use Solidworks. But that is a bit of pain to use on 2D drwgs.

i am confiedent about the sizing for the files except the light weight head MK 2 - I had to resize it - I had to guess which hole was supposed to be 3mm

Nope - I remembered incorrectly - see Russ's video

23... Fine detail import issue
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zG376fzLHMI

 Import artefacts as RDWorks brings in fine detail
 Solution is to export at 10 times full size
 Import and then scale down to 10%
