Heh, magnetic core memory. Thanks for the flashback TIm.
Back in the mid-70's to mid-80's I used to haunt an electronics surplus shop in the SF bay area (Quinns) and they had oodles of core memory piled outside in a side yard. It was beautiful stuff. Wasn't worth it's weight in bovine based fertilizer in 1978. It would be worth a fortune now as collectors items. Or as wall decor.
It was beautiful stuff and Quinns had tons of large panels of it they couldn't give away.
Sigh... If only I had bought all the stuff I could have had for pennies in my youth that would be worth a fortune now.

Some of you have been in this longer than I have. I started with an old Packard Bell 386 with only DOS on it. In I believe 1992. But that was my reintroduction into computers. I started on a TRS-80 in 1979. But, when I left Cali, I got out of it. But, in the early 90's, I had 386 and 486 galore in my office, building computers out of scrap parts. Running Red Hat Linux and other distro's.
The computer I listed at the beginning is my main machine. I have a HP work station that runs my Unraid file sever, also running Linux VM's. That has dual Intel® Xeon® CPU X5570 @ 2.93GHz which is 8 core and 16 thread with 24 gig's of ram. This computer sold new for over $10,000 but it is cool that you can pick them up for cheap. I also have a first generation Intel I-5 running a firewall with PFSense.
I could go on, I have 2 other computers running, one is my HTPC and the other is my wife's design computer. My wifes computer is a AMD Ryzen 1700 with 16 gigs of ram. She spends a lot of time in Corel Draw, she needed the cores and threads to do her work.
I also have another computer I need to build that will have a AMD Ryzen 1600 with 16 gigs of ram.
I will, eventually, upgrade to a Ryzen 3 Gen. But, it isn't in the budget at the moment. At the moment, the I-7 seems to be doing the job.
Everything listed above, I build from scratch (except the HP, I did however upgraded it). I am, I guess, a little computer crazy, but, I do love them.

Old but still learning a new trick or two
To get a bit more performance out of your older Ryzen builds the video on this link is worth following up. While it did only gain me a bit over 3% system benchmark overall the CPU percentage was a lot more than that (closer to 10%). Reduced the memory Latency from CL16 to a modded CL14.
Step by step Memory Overclocking for Ryzen.

That does work, but please be advised. Some memory modules won't handle that kind of overclocking. They become unstable, or the computer won't boot at all. XMP profiles is all they can handle. Also, be sure you have a good motherboard that can handle the extra voltage needed for some overyclocks.

Cat hair is much better then when I was doing alot of consumer electronics/computer repair from my home. I remember the first time I brought home a computer and opened it on my bench and it was filled with roaches. Luckily I put it in my bagged trash bin and took it far away to blow out the chassis. I returned the computer to the customer, damaged beyond repair by the infestation. I never opened equipment for the first time at home again.

Bit quiet here on the Laser front but the PC system upgrade continues. Finally decided to get myself a decent monitor.
Same sort of thinking as my recent Ryzen build, CAD, 4K video editing and rendering and 'some' games. So 1440P IPS display is a bit of a must but some of the VA's are getting decent. 27-32" as my eyes are getting older and it works as a size for the QHD resolution (4K monitors are not needed for editing 4K video!). Wide colour gammut and preferably DCIP over 90%.
Assembled the usual suspects and went through eliminating them down to two candidates the just released (this week I think) LG 27GL850-B and the recently released Gigabyte AD27QD. Due to getting a just under $500 USD deal on the Gigabyte I went that way but either option otherwise is a coin toss.
My old Samsung is heading to the Laser to replace the clunky one on it at present. Amazingly sharp and vivid are the first thoughts and now it is wall mounted I actually gained some bench space back, if you are considering this monitor you need a very deep desk as it is 250mm on the stand from the base to screen front wall mounted it comes back to about 110mm.

So I splurged on one of the brand new Gigabyte 5700XT's
The three cards are 560 (PCI version) 580 and the 5700XT.
Used the clean install driver option and opened up fine but then starting giving me grief on what seems to have been the memory overclock I did a while ago that has been stable and never glitched. :-// Back to stock XMP and been solid since with stress testing and ran some benchmarks to see how it stacked up.
Cinebench and PC Mark were the same more or
less with the 580 or the 5700XT losing the few % of memory speed is a PITA so I will take another look now it is stable again.
As expected Heaven and 3DMark the 5700XT smoked the 580 by 2:1. Heaven 2821, 112FPS vs 1378, 55FPS. 3DMark 8901 vs 4618. Both of these were run @ 1440P Ultra settings on Heaven.
So little productivity gain if any to be had for the $ but anything needing frame rate then worth the $. Might be time for some murder death kill

So... will this still run RDworks? Weren't you talking about drinking the Prusa Koolaid?
