Yes, I think the motors are running because of the increased step length.
Regarding PWM rising edge, I am not an expert BTW, but I think to be 100% sure you have to download the specification sheet for youe stepper drivers and there will be the information if they are responding to the positive or negative edge of the PWM pulses. The further I think if the stepper drivers are all the same, the edge values should be too.
