Bodor Lens Comparison

I finally got around to see how the Bodor 50.8mm (2.0") lens compares to the one that came with the laser, a 38.1mm (1.5") lens. I've posted the test of the 1.5" lens earlier for those that are interested. Below is a graph of the hole size (mm) vs. focus height (mm). Here are some observations:

Minimum hole size: 1.5" - 0.186mm, 2.0" - 0.198mm
Optimal Focus height: 1.5" - 9.5mm, 2.0" - 18.5mm
Focus range for a +0.1mm beam width increase: 1.5" - 2.7mm, 2.0" - 5.5mm

As expected, one could expect to get better detail resolution on etchings/scans with the 1.5" lens, but not by much. If etching on a curved surface (in x-axis), you might be better off with the 2.0" lens as the beam diameter doesn't change as much as the Z changes. I have some beer glass etchings to do on both pint glasses (flat sides) and on tulip style stemmed glasses (curved) and will see which lens does better on which style glass.

2" is a good all round lens for most work.
