Air pump/compressor problems?

A new air pump (one that came with the machine) just failed after a couple hours of use.

I took it apart to see if it could be fixed and found that the screw that holds the rubber flap/valve came loose. I added loc-tite to the threads to prevent this from happening again.

The other thing I noticed was that the inside was FILTHY with aluminum dust/shavings. There were no gouges in the bearing surfaces so this was all from the manufacturing process. These would have eventually got into the valves and piston destroying the seal and likely the entire unit.

I cleaned it all out and oiled the surfaces then put it all back together. Now it has MUCH more air output, and is A LOT quieter.

If you have one of these consider giving it a quick rebuild/cleaning.

There is a big surprise....not.
Good job figuring out instead of throwing it out.

I will move this to the FAQ section for members having this problem in the future.
