Newbie from Australia

Hi guys. I am new to laser cutting having recently acquired a 1280 Generic laser cutter with a Ruida controller and a dodgy 130w laser tube. (The seller did make me aware of this beforehand so he is not dodgy) I have ordered a replacement tube and am looking forward to getting my machine up and running when it arrives. My past experience includes 25 years in IT support and have been playing with 3D printing and have built my own CNC machine so when the opportunity came to be able to purchase this laser cutter I could not pass it up.

Sadly I probably have the technical skills to build a laser cutter, but I lack the drawing skills that so many of you wonderfully creative people possess. I will mostly be using my cutter to produce parts but I am looking forward to expanding my drawing skills and produce not only functional items but aesthetically pleasing designs as well.

Regards to all
Derek

Welcome Derek. You don’t have to be overly creative. There’s lots of stuff out there that is free to use with a it of searching.
