Hi all. Started a small (super small) business ~August 2018 here in Washington, US.
Sort of fell into the Laser CNC's as the original plan was CNC routers. Got a diy, teeny tiny arduino cnc router kit from Amazon that came with a diode laser. Fiddled with the router parts, then decided to put that headache down for a bit and play with the laser. Saw so much potential that when i went for my first BIG purchase it was a laser cutter/engraver, instead of a CNC router. Put in a load of research, before i made the CO2 step up. Figured there's a lot it can do that my table saw and other tools can't and, that it would actually expand possibilities later down the road.
Everything laser and CNC related is self taught. Have had some formal woodsmith and construction education but nothing intense.
I'm in a position to basically dump almost all of my 9-5 pay into building this venture, and have completely dedicated my 24x24 garage and my dining room to this. I'm primarily on Etsy with sales, and a little bit of dabbling with FB marketplace etc. as well as trying to grow my IG account. I want to build a maker business and create unique and usable content and products for people. Hardest thing for me lately has been generating leads, and finding time to come up with, let alone make new things. I hope that i can bring something to the table for anyone here despite that.
If you wanted to check out more from me while i poke around the boards here you can find ZapLabs on Facebook, Pinterest, Etsy, Twitter, Tumbler, and zap_labs on Instagram. I post most things i do to IG as it's a better platform for showcasing what i can create or have done.
