The server went down sometime Aug 3. When I contacted the Web Host they indicated the issue was mine but restored the site using a 28 Jul backup.
Sometime late yesterday the server went down again and the Webhost decided it was their problem and did work on the Server. Evidently that failed and they restored a backup they had from some time on 3 Aug. It looks like the data has been restored.
Based upon the recommendation of one of our moderators I will be backing up the site daily now to guard against this issue in the future. i don't see my posts from 3 Aug announcing the original issue...that is why I believe they restore to sometime immediately before the site went down.
I am supposing they did some upgrade that failed and they were slow to recognize their error AND that is why they had a backup that day (they normally backup on Sat night) - I could be wrong but since I have to guess - that's my guess.

Pete,
Thanks for all that you do (especially behind-the-scenes stuff we don't even know about) to keep this forum running!
I know there are other moderators out there, quietly helping us out - thanks to them, too!
-Jeff

Thank you Jeffery - I always appreciate feedback - particularly when it is nice.

Nice to be back with the content restored in the main.
Initial denial is standard practice with most hosts I have dealt with in the past because their gear is perfect and you lowly users are to blame - Always
Seems very likely they had a hard drive failure or it was starting to fail in this server. As they had a recent backup available and they caused this issue ask them if they can run a daily backup of the site to save your time and effort? It is fairly normal for Hosts to offer this service for a cost but in this case might be worth asking at least for a period of time as a belts and braces backup.

Some forum software offer an auto backup of the database via a cron job. I don't remember if PHPBB has that option or not as I haven't used it for a while. But, backups are important. Cpanel (if you are on it) may have an option, too.

Pete,
I just noticed that there is no longer any content to be seen in the Donor and Super Donor pages. Was this information lost somewhere along the way? I might be wrong, but I'm thinking it was made available after the deletion in March, wasn't it?

Thanks.

I think the only things that was in those sections was a copy of the manual which is now located in the general forum for any who would like to use it.
Is there something you remember specifically?

Pete,
I remember plans for a rotary fixture. I had downloaded them on my laptop which is now with a dead harddrive. Seems like Gene may have sent them to me, but I haven't been able to find the email. Just curious more than anything really. I have a rotary that I bought with my fiber laser that might work with my new CO2. I'm going to take a shot at it once I've received the new laser. Thanks for the response, Sir.

Larry- it was me you got the plans from, let me know if you decide to look at this again. We are discussing ways to release the plans to the public for a small contribution to keep the forum going in the future. Gene
