Russ has created a thoughtful and detailed review of len performance using a wide variety of lens. Included are pictures and numerical findings to support conclusions. It is recommended you watch the video and then review the data compiled in the attached pdf.

I just watched the video. I've been subscribed to the youtube series for about a year. Thank you so much for providing real world hands on examples of how you get things done. Always great info there. I regularly share the video links with my 3d printing and making group.

Jonas.

Is it ok to make a focus extender with a 3d printer with petg? I don't know how hot the lens gets, but with 3% power costing at 50Watt 1,5Watt would get converted to heat, but there is an air assist cooling, what do you think? (The lenses will arrive in a month)

You should be fine - if the lens gets hot it will be due to impuries (smoke, debris finger prints) on the lens. In which case it will crack - the lens holder is a lesser issue.

Phillipp- did you design the tubes [especially the threads] yourself or find an .stl? I need some nozzle extensions in different sizes. I have high hopes for Russ' latest experiments.

Yes, designed it myself, took a few tries to get the threads right. I published it https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:4733069. A friend has solidworks, I can make adjustments if you like, but it might take a few days.

Thank you- I actually use Fusion 360 for design- I should be able to modify it with Meshmixer to get the shorter extensions that I am thinking of. I find that getting the nozzle closer to the material you are cutting works way better.
