I typically engrave text with a picture into a piece of wood. Sometimes I need to (go over / retrace) some of the engraved areas to darken, but I don't want to do the entire picture. Is there a way to do this...to start mid-picture?

Yes - you can highlight the elements you want to scan, and tick the "Output Select Graphics" [in English: "Output Selected Graphics"] box.

From The Manual:
4.6 Output select graphics when the “Output Select Graphics” checkbox is checked, only
those parts of the drawing which are selected will be output. If nothing is selected, nothing will
be output. If the “Selected Graphics Position” checkbox is checked, the Laser Head Position
will be relative to the selected parts of the drawing, if it is not checked the Laser Head
Position will be relative to the entire drawing.

Thank you for the feedback. Unfortunately I use jpeg artwork so I can’t highlight a specific area. I guess I need to get my pictures in a vector format.

Why not make a copy of your graphic erase the portion you don't want to engrave again - save with out changing the size of the graphic and send back to the laser

To maintain your original starting point, I like to use the 'Point' [left side below the Text button] to show the laser where to start from if you want to do a cut or engrave within a job. The point will not affect the laser, it is just a placeholder. If you select it you can align to the top and left[or right] side of your job.
