Yo!

So - I'e just bought a 100W, 1m x 60cm laser, which is being shipped from NJ to sunny California as I speak.

I found Russ' videos a long time ago, he actually reminds me very much of one of my old Physics Lecturers at Imperial with his understated style. There were several times then where I was being told "I'm not an expert on this but..." and I'm thinking to myself "Man! You've *forgotten* more than I will ever know about this :)"

Anyway, I've wanted a laser-cutter/engraver for a few years, and I've been following off-and-on the videos that Russ has been making over the years. Once I've made my "fortune" over here in CA, I fully intend to return to the green and pleasant land, and have a nice house with a workshop (maybe even by the sea). I'm a decade away from that though...

Looking forward to playing with the new toy, and maybe even doing some 3D engraving - I was watching the video with the Eagle in acrylic (#127) and thinking about scaling that up to a Map of Westeros... Possibly even layering more than one sheet of 15mm acrylic on top of another, all 3-D carved in the same way...

There'll be a lot of learning before anything like that happens, but hey - that's the fun part as well :)

Welcome Simon- if you have watched all of Russ' vids you have a good grounding in the field, when you get and setup the machine you will likely have some questions, so ask away. Gene
