User Sweep Parameters

I've read the wonderfully translated RD Works manual. But I just cant wrap my head around the sweep parameters under user settings.

If I set the layer parameter to 400mm/s do i need to set the x Acc to 160,000m/s2?
And how should one set the y acc when there is no layer setting for that?
I've searched through Russ' videos but I couldn't find where this is covered.

Thanks in advance.

x Acc, y Acc: The x and y Acc. (acceleration) parameters must be set to match the scanning
speed (the speed of processing as set in the Layer Parameters). If the x and y Acc.
parameters are too small, scanning efficiency is negatively affected. The machine can be set
to the actual inertia load as X and Y Axis loads are much higher than the X-Axis or Y-Axis
acceleration loads.

The sweep parameter are defined by the vendor settings.
unless you are building your own machine you should not have to adjust these EXCEPT in some instances the "scan mode", Facula Size, and or the Engraving factor.

The values you enter into the a layer must work within the design of the machine and defined as max speeds

The sweep parameter are entirely dependent on the mechanical configuration of your machine AND the design of the controller.

Consider this:
Two cars a Volkswagen and a Ferrari...both will go 0-60 mph
- the Ferrari will do it 2 or 3 time faster than the Volkswagen
-the Volkswagen will top out around 90mph, the Ferrari about 180mph
-the Volkswagen will do 90mph but won't last long at that speed, the Ferrari will do 90mph all day every day you give it gas.

So your laser has some value of max speed that will provide sharp and crisp engraving when scanning AND if you exceed that speed it will look bad.
Your manual should have a recommended max speed but if not you will have to experiment.
Most of the laser discussed on this forum have a max speed of around 400mm/s. Trotec and Epilog are 4-6 time faster and cost 3-5 times more.

You should not have to adjust the speeds in your sweep setting - But if you decide you want to I recommend backing up your Vendor setting so you can restore your system in the event you choose poorly

Hi Pete,
Thanks for the robust explanation. My machine has Max of 500mm/s. Does the x acc value of 10000 mm/s2 make sense to you?
See the attached image I ran at 400mm/s. Should I try it at the max speed?
I have a Laguna laser so there's no manual.
Thanks for the help.

"Does the x acc value of 10000 mm/s2 make sense to you?" Yes, it is a typical value I have seen in many configurations - - I don't know enough to explain how the vendor derived that value.

"Should I try it at the max speed?" It won't hurt anything - except perhaps a poor engraving
