Overriding auto-focus

So I'm running through materials, characterizing how my laser cuts/engraves etc.

One thing I want to know is how well the auto-focus works, and then I want to change the focus up/down by 1mm at a time and compare. Extending the distance from the bed to the nozzle is easy, but getting the bed to raise up above 0 just ... doesn't. Which is reasonable until I want it to :)

At the moment, I'm power-cycling the machine every time, which seems like a hammer to crack a nut, because it'll home X,Y and leave Z unknown. Just hitting reset on the controller doesn't seem to "forget" where Z=0 is...

Is there an easy way (on the controller or in the software) that lets you manually override where the machine things Z=0 is ? This isn't a show-stopper or anything, and in general use it's probably fine, it's just a minor annoyance with what I'm doing right now :)

Ta,
Simon

My auto focus work very well - some folks hate thiers and remove it.
As far as over riding - simply set the z height manually to what ever you which (auto focus only comes into play if you select
"auto focus" when you set up - it doe not automatically perform a focus function unless to manual select that)
