I'm looking for some acrylic, gold gloss surface with a black under layer, to make some door nameplates.
Can anyone recommend a supplier and material suitable for lasering.

In the states some brands are Rowmark and Gemini Duets. I have heard it called microplastic and impact modified acrylic. Good luck.

Thanks Gene, i'll browse those brands and see if UK equivalents appear.
I also have a cnc, so I can use that also, although the laser is the preferred option. I haven't tried this stuff before so hoping to get some material to give it a try.

Hi Jeffrey,
Had a wee look at their site, a few issues with linkages, and didn't find gold with black underlay. I'll try again tomorrow and see.
cheers

Hi Ian
I use Hindleys in Sheffield for this stuff - the black/gold and black/aluminium give a very good finish (even with bitmap photos). I find the price reasonable too (don't know what the Trolase prices are like).

One aside. They do various white on colour ones too. They engrave quite well but, unlike the black underlay, I find I have to engrave twice before cutting because of the colour 'leeching' into the white as the residue settles.

Cheers Gary,
I signed up on trotec site but "Unfortunately we cannot ship to the UK so I have forwarded your contact information to Trotec UK." nothing received yet.
I'm not looking large quantities as i'm only a hobbyist since I started back to work
Just checked Hindleys, selected a couple of pieces for testing, unfortunately their delivery pricing to Northern Ireland (U.K.) is £15 (parcelforce worldwide).
RM small parcel:
Max length: 45cm
Max width: 35cm
Max depth: 16cm
Max weight: 2kg
1st Class £3.60
2nd Class £3.00
I haven't mailed them yet, will do after work this evening. - emailed this morning

Trotec USA sent me free samples; perhaps Trotek UK can do the same for you.
