Does it matter what version of RDWorks?

Specifically, I understand that some companies have customized versions of the software. I, for example, have been using the ThunderLaser version (even though I have a no name Chinese laser). It seems to be working fine, but I didn't know if there were pros/cons to the different variants and/or anything I should watch out for. Thanks!

There are versions of Ruida controllers that will only allow that companies version of RDw- LightObject is one [ask me how I know]. You are not likely to run into them unless you purchase a Ruida controller in the wild. Most do not mess with it as then they have to provide the updates.

ThunderLaser has some customizations in their firmware that are supported by their version of RDWorks (and LightBurn). LightObject, as far as I can tell, only uses a different scramble key, but doesn't have a different command set, so that hardware is properly supported by LightBurn as well, but not by normal RDWorks. It's a mess, and I've never understood why they do that for their vendors - it's bad for customers.
