Hello All!

I am new to the world of lasers and very much intrigued by the community! Through my research I found Russ’s video series and have watched about 75 of them. Just watched a video that mentioned a forum and I am so glad I found it!

I am merely a hobbiest and love making small projects and gifts for family and friends when I have time. I figure a laser would be a great addition to my “Workshop” also known as the corner of the garage I am allowed to work in! Lol!

I have not purchased my laser yet, but am close to pulling the trigger. I am looking at the Chinese 50w route as many have, due to the amount of knowledge Russ and like minded people have provided to help get started.

I do have one first question, caveat, I have not started searching the forms yet. I have noticed that on eBay there are 3 main machines that are 50w Chinese 20”x12” machines. One looks identical to Russ’s, the other two are dark blue and grey with one having the glass wrap from the top to the front. My question is, is there an difference minus there looks?

Thank you and I look forward to joining the laser adventure!

Welcome Chris, that market is supplied by most any Chinese with a place to assemble the various parts I am afraid. They buy the cabinet and all the parts from whoever is handy and cheapest and more or less wire it. The colors are indicative of nothing. Buying on ebay is a form of semi-legal gambling I am afraid. There are reputable companies in the states who actually have a location and buy machines from china and [usually] check them and resell them. This is more expensive as you might imagine. Rabbit laser and Automation Tech I have had experience with and several members have Boss lasers and there are others. It comes down to how risk-averse you are and your budget. Also, if you are like my life partner and have Zero patience with machines and electronics, you might want to fall in with some one who is the opposite.

There are many very knowledgeable and helpful members here and you can and should learn as much as possible before you buy... or else... dive in. Gene
