Cutting 10 mil mylar

Okay, so she got some sheets of 10 mil mylar to make her own stencils. Read 'Honey, you can just...'

So I'm shooting in the dark on settings. I have an 80W machine. I'm guessing around 30% power at 100 mm/s, about the same as I do for heavy paper. These are going to be one offs for the most part, so I'm not looking to max out on speed, just get a decent cut.

I was doing some of these cutting/engraving tests for .22 " acrylic today to fill out my LightBurn material library. A few of these with some basic cutting parameters will give a good baseline for where to start to experiment.

Thanks Gene, I'll give it a try. I've done some 1.2mm acrylic so I have some settings, just not for anything that thin. I figured I'd load my card stock settings as a starting point and see what happens. It's going to be 100% cutting, so if I over power it at first no big deal. I'm more concerned at under power and not getting a cut. Bad part is my power curve on my 80W is more like a quarter circle. Bad enough I wish I could make .25% jumps at the controller for the low power settings.

She gets too serious about these stencils, and I might seriously look at a good diode laser.

You can make .25% jumps, and at the low end I often use 8.75 as my lowest possible setting for engraving. My max is 45% so while I don't appear to have as many fine adjustments, in the end it mostly matters at the lowest settings I have found.

For really thin materials, I often find multiple passes at higher speeds work well.

Going to do a power / multi pass test with a scrap piece. My 30% @ 100 mm/s cut, but the surface was a bit ugly and a few of the cuts were a bit 'jagged'. Could need to turn my air assist down or off.

AND MYLAR STINKS !!!!
