Hi,
I'm Marco and technology teacher for children 15-17 years old for elektricity, plumbing, ICT and metal design@manufacturing. I use since end november a Boxford BML 1390.
I try to find the knowledge for layer parameters for metal sheet 1 and 1,5 mm. i already did a lot of tests with this metal but the results are not very nice. A lot burring at the bottom of the metal piece and around little holes. The laser does not punch. Etc. But, still happy
Regards Marco

Welcome Marco. Sorry I cant help with the layer parameter for cutting metal - perhaps someone else here may have some insights.

Hi Marco,
Feel your pain. I have a 1390 Hybrid CO2 with Autofocus and trying to develop cutting parameters for 1 mm Stainless and Mild Steels. Getting the same issues (not punching through at the start and autofocus) and looking for some parameters to start from.
I tried Oxygen gas at 400 kPa (p 80, Sp 10) on 0.6 mm Carbon Steel and get a lot less bur on the bottom. I also have Nitrogen for the Stainless but havent got any settings yet.
Thanks Andrew

Hi Marco,
We sell lasermachines in your country but we wouldn't sell a 150W and tell you it could cut metal. (though it is possible)
The settings to cut metal is really different from cutting wood or acrylics. In example, the focus height is already diferent to cut stainless steel from carbon steel. For cutting stainless you would need nitrogen, for carbonsteel oxygen.
For seriously cutting metal sheets we would advice a fibercutter starting at 0.5KW.
To cut 10mm carbon you would need at least a 1KW.
Good luck in finding your settings.
Anthony

Thank you for helping this member- we occasionally have people looking for metal cutting help and do not know what to tell them- I will put your comments into the FAQ section to help people in the future... if you could add anything else that would be very helpful. Gene
