Analog or PWM signal for psu

hi everybody,

I had response troubles with te PSU (water protect and laser on inputs were twisted). As I checked the rest of my wiring I saw two posibilities to control the laser power. You can send an analog or a pwm signal to the laser for controlling. Curently I use the analog output of the ruida controller and I read a lot of posts they have a pwm control for the laser power. Is there a big difference in response time or improvements when I change to pwm signal output? Thanks in advance.

regards

Sascha

For me, that would be a Russ question. You might post it on one of his latest videos in the comments and see if he gets back to you.

My feeble memory tells me that Russ' controller is set up to use PWM. He did a video from Florida, USA (and a few afterwards) where he showed oscilloscope shots of the two signals that go to the Power Supply. One is PWM - which controls the power, and the other is a digital "on / off" signal.

There's an index to his videos around here somewhere (search the forum) that should help you find it.

Sorry that this answer is not more specific. I do not believe he actually answers your question of "which is better?"

I'll add to that and say I seem to remember it was more PSU specific than anything, but not positive on that.

I think this is an interesting question. Is the adc in the ruida controller better or the one in the power supply?
