Hi All,

stumbled on this forum after googling “Russ rdworks” going to find some answers to my laser issues. searching shall commence !

I make lots of acrylic products mainly for aquariums, i’ve recently installed the laser (previously a good friend was making my products but had to stop due to ill health) i’m enjoying setting it up and Russ has given me a wealth of info which has been very useful.
looking forward to diversifying into other mediums like plywood and engraving etc

Welcome Toby- cutting acrylic is one of the prime features of our lasers as you know. If the laser is new to you I would advise recording the Vendor files as per the FAQ section as new users commonly lose them and they can be difficult to rebuild. Other than that, ask any questions you may have and have fun. Gene

thanks Gene, i have a hotline to my mate who was using it before me so he’s helped me quite a bit. I do like to go down rabbit holes tho

so il be aiming to get it setup as ‘perfect’ as i can.

all i need to do now is workout how to adjust my head, (it doesn’t look adjustable to me) but that’ll be another post

Getting a square cut is determined by the beam going straight down the lens tube and hitting. the lens squarely in the center- controlled by mirror #3... and how. the beam from #2 hits #3.

yeh, i’ve aligned the 1 and 2 mirro so the beams are parallel to the respective axis, and then messed around with the 3 mirror to try and get it to centre.

main issue i think is the beam is not entering the centre of the hole into the head, and as i have no head adjustment it’s not too easy to mess.
that said i have moved the laser tube to get the beam closer to centre and also moved it further away wanting to see a change in the off square cut, which i couldn’t see any change which is what’s confusing. I do want to get a new head just to make alignment easier in future. it’s probably basic alignment i need to do its just a pain with the brackets currently on. upgrade will hopefully make alignment easier and therefore get closer to what i need

One of my last experiments before leaving Minnesota on my sabbatical [as Pete Seegar said 'which turned into a Monsical and Tuesical'... sorry, I love [some] song lyrics] was to cut some pasteboard 'targets' to replace the #3 mirror to get the exact fall of the beam on that mirror. It can be helpful.
