New to Lasers finding a steep learning curve !

Hi all

Here's my hello to the group !
Why Lasers ?
1) My son next term starts his "options" at school and choices include Woodtech & Graphic design so how cool will it be to have a Laser cutter for course work !
2) Have a little business on the side selling modelling paint and want to add on to the range . Particularly home cut paint stands .
3)Have you watched Goldfinger Muh ha ha  !!

Kept looking on ebay and snapped up a "parts not working" KH-5030. The chap basically told me that its did recognize its own bed size.
All in all he was pretty vague but he assured me the laser itself was all good.
I Paid a song for it so the 4 hr round trip and the price thought fair was fair.

I knew I wanted to do some upgrades so before turning on I've added
Two computer fans to the front of the door to push air flow (smoke) to the extraction vent.
Added Analogue milliamp meter on front panel not ensure working within actual parameters of the laser not the software.
Got the water set up with the special receipt from Dons or laser gods website. The water holder is opac and has gromits on water in/out to stop pollutants and UV assisting mold etc.
Upgraded the air assist pump and added a filter to stop moisture in the line and a restrictor to adjust the puff if needed.

All going well but once turned on ... Realized how steep the learning curve is going to be for a bit .

I'll post a 2nd message with where i am , symptoms , what steps i think will be required and the help i need ..
Once its all sorted I'll post a step by step with resources links etc of how i made it to be up and running for the next Noob with similar issues ..

Thanks in advance to the everyone whose about to help ! :D

Welcome Andrew - be sure to back up your vendor setting - they are easily lost and difficult to recover.

You get some use out of our revised manual to better understand some functions - it is written to address RDWORKS vice Lightburn but there are better explanation's for some of the terms used without regard to which control software is in use.

Just really glad I've found somewhere with the knowledge to start moving forward.
Thanks for the advise on backing up the vendor settings i fear it may be too late for that ( not be ) the previous owner.

Do you think it best to continue on this thread/post about the key issues that the machine is throwing up or start another post ?

Already feeling better now I've joined the clan ! :D

Your choice but there are better sections for questions depending on the nature of the questions/discussion. There is some merit to grouping topics.

I'll be honest: I ignore almost all of the "Tell us about you" posts. But I read ALL of the others. So perhaps you'll get a better response by posting questions in a different section.

(Of course, maybe I'm the only person rude enough to do this).
