I've had a K40 since about 2015. Used it a ton, made a bunch of upgrades, but never replaced the M2 nano, and always wanted a larger engraving area.

I wasn't actively looking to get a larger machine, but I was scrolling Facebook marketplace a few weeks back and came across someone selling a non working Accuris Powersharp 12. I had never heard of said company, so I looked into it and found out it was a rebrand of the Taiwanese LTT ILS-3. Theyre well reviewed and have been built for about 30 years (this particular machine is a 2007 model). They retailed for about $12k new in 2007, and the seller was asking $125 for it, so my interest was peaked.

It's heavy.

Really, Really Heavy.

Built like a tank heavy.

The laser mounting plate and Z-axis mount are solid 10mm machined aluminum plates, and the entire case is something like 12-14 gauge steel. Engraving area is 660mm x 495mm, (much larger than the old K40). Mechanically it's like brand new.

There's no tube, it was originally equipped with an air-cooled rf excited synrad, but that apparently died and was not included. The seller said the controller was malfunctioning as well, but I wasn't too interested in using a parallel port anyway.....

Ive bought a 50watt cloudray tube, 60 watt MYJG LPSU, 4 DM542T stepperdrivers, and an RDC6445S. Ive identifed all the stepper motors for correct current settings, sorted out the OMRON optical limit switch pinouts and voltages, and traced out the rest of the electronics. I removed the control cards and will hopefully have the new controls installed by the weekend (girlfriend is busy every night this week, more time to spend in the shop :D )

You can see that the old control interface would not fit the RDC Control screen, So I designed and printed a mount that I'm quite happy with.

A few questions:

Is there any differences or issues between the 6445G and 6445S?
I ordered from lightobject and was sent the S. I couldnt find any info online but it appears to be identical so far.

When importing the cloudray tube did anyone else get flagged for review by the FDA?
Something about radiation compliance, and/or they think I'm setting up an underground tatoo removal or laser hair removal studio... (all sorted now, filled out one form and they gave me my tube, lol)

If anyone has any advice I'm open to suggestions.
Thanks,
-James

Welcome James- that is quite the design on the 6445 panel holder... I can appreciate that especially. Ruida makes many different models of all their controllers, often with features we would never need or think of, but someone somewhere needs it I suppose. You sound like you have this well in hand- you might look in the FAQ section for Vendor file info that may be useful. Otherwise this is a learning process and each case is different enough that there are no chiseled in stone answers- if you have a question ask and someone will probably have touched on that problem at some time. I could have mounted the screen sideways and made it fit, but that just seemed super crude.
In the end I'm happy with the result of the printed mount. (except for maybe the finish in the front under the screen, I'll try and smooth that up)

My feelings exactly- do it right or don't do it. The existing panel would be a good place for a switch panel for lights, exh fan, Aux fan, etc.

Yes, I have a thick piece of plastic that is going to get a pocket milled in it to mount the 3D printed mount.
There will be an ammeter and some switches also.

Machined some thick plastic I found into a mount for my 6445 control pod. Also machined in a spot for the mAmmeter. There’s a little room left for some switches in the future.

Also Tested some gray paint on the faded plastic cowling, I think I like it a lot.

New drives, control unit, wire way, and some output relays are mounted on electrical panel. Just waiting on some wire labels so I can keep everything neat and identified.

All in all it’s coming along nicely.

Very nice work- doing something as well as you can is it's own reward, I have found. I am confused [often] about your pict #2 and #3, in one your cutting bed is next to the panel as I would expect and in the third pict the panel adjoins your stepper drivers?

As far as professional looking labels I would recommend the Brother PT-H110 label maker [about $35 as I recall]. I have owned a sign shop for 25+ years and I still use it constantly. It is easy and looks good- several sizes and fonts and colors are available with different cartridges.

The controls and drives are in a thin cabinet on the side of the machine, just under the screen.

In the photos I have the mounting panel removed to work on it. It’s just sitting atop the bed lid.
