Hello,

i have a strange Problem.

After my Laser arrived i installed a old RDWorks Version ( did not know there is a newer available )
Then i read here in the Forum Version 8.1.40 is availabe. Going to download and installed it.

But now i can no longer open a File which is saved by RDWorks itself ??

I tried then to install a older version again 8.01.22, but there is the same Problem.

Did anyone know what can cause such a strange Problem??
All other funktions are working very well with RDWorks.

The new versions of RDWORKS are not always stable and some versions have problems.
If 8.01.22 was working for you I would not change unless there is a particular feature you need.

Another issue with RDWORKS is changeing version without completly removing the exiting version creates problems.
The only resolution is to delete all the RDWORKS software and start over - try that.
If that doesn't work you may have to revert to a prior B/U via windows restore. (unless you are running a software tracker like windows cleaner that can delete all the references to RDWORKS in the system and registry-can be dangerous)

If I remember right, 8.01.20 through 8.01.23 (and maybe 8.01.24?) had some real issues. I would not settle on one of those as my foundation. Stay at 8.01.18, go up to 8.01.26 or maybe try 8.01.33 which has worked well for me. If you keep creating files in a version that has known issues, you are just making things more painful for when you finally are forced to upgrade for a needed feature, Windows system compatibility issue, etc. 8.01.18 and 8.01.26 have the reputation as the most stable versions of RDWorks so far.

There has always been a problem opening a file in an older version of RDWorks that has been created in a newer version of RDWorks (e.g. opening a file created in 8.01.29 in 8.01.18). There have been sporadic reports of problems opening old version files when using a newer program version but there isn't enough user information out there (and some of it is conflicting) to determine if it is an issue isolated to specifics on a user's machine or if it is a widespread general issue.

There also was an issue many people never realized was happening where some versions of RDWorks would get give file errors starting when you tried to open a file created in a newer version. The program stayed messed up until you went back and opened a file that had originally been created in the older version of the program. Miraculously, things began to work fine again. Some people never wrapped there head around this simple trick to get past this issue. I don't know if this trick still applies to any recent versions though. There was a thread on this here in the forum but it is of course now gone like so much other valuable information.

Hello,
thanks a lot for the very explaining this.
Some other Programms have also problems opening older/newer files as far as i know.

As i have written, i have used the CCCleaner and installed v8.01.22 which have (at the moment) all what i need
and i will stay at this Version :-)

Thanks
Matthias

the newer version of rdworks ver 8.01.40 seems to also fix that annoying problem with not being able to open saved files without having to mess with the registry.
