Hmm. It could be memory corruption in the controller. Can you try deleting ALL stored jobs from the controller (assuming that you have some)? For the sake of clarity - by "controller" I mean on the RuiDa itself, NOT from your laptop. Got home, turned on my machine, laser head didn't rehome or move at all. Hooked up ethernet cable, cleared memory on controller. Still nothing. No movement, nothing. I can't move X or Y.

I suspect the power supply. Check the supply voltage to the X stepper motor driver, both at the power supply and at the driver itself. Ditto for the Y.

Check also the wiring between the RuiDa and the stepper driver. Turn the machine off and ohm out the connections.

Check that the Ruida and the stepper drivers have the same Ground (Earth) connection - measure the resistance between the two Ground (Earth) points.

Other than the above, it would have to be either the stepper drivers or the RuiDa. I suspect the RuiDa since it is statistically unlikely that both stepper drivers would fail simultaneously.

I just replaced both stepper drivers because I thought that they were the problem. I found that my USB drive was broken last night. So I'm afraid it just might be the Ruida. I tried to reset to factory parameters but the two passwords I had, didn't work. HF8888 and RD8888 both got kicked out. Can you recommend a replacement or upgrade for my RDC6442G controller?

Personally, I'd check the low-voltage power supplies and the Ground connection first (it's cheaper!). Also measure the supply voltage to the RuiDa - if the voltage is way off, the controller would do strange things.

If we assume the RuiDa is fried, it may be helpful to consider how it got that way. On the one hand, it's possible that it was defective coming from the factory (or had a latent defect that got worse over time). On the other hand, it could have been damaged by electrical over-stress (EOS). Is the power in your shop / garage pretty solid? Or does it glitch (and the lights flicker), and the power goes out all the time? Have you noticed any issues with static electricity (you get "zapped" every time you touch the laser)?

I've never had to replace the controller, but if I did, I wouldn't mind putting in another RDC6442G.

where your motors do stop, do the stepper controller lights change? on mine, there is a green light that can turn red when the driver is failing. in my case, there were interferences and the driver turned "red" and stopped working, while the controller was still ok, sending orders which were not executed.
