Hi, Everyone,
I just got my 60 watt laser and really like it. I am 69 years old and still working. I go to the gym three days a week so I feel good and enjoy learning. I have made a few projects on the laser. I also have a CNC router that I got also from Automations Technology and enjoy it also. Still learning about the laser so will post more later.
Thanks,
John

Hi Pete,
I use Aspire since I am use to using it on the router. I use Mastercam for work and program milling machines and lathes. Have downloaded some dxf files to cut learning as I go.
Thanks,
John

Nice. Recommend you use Aspire to design you laser projects...export as an *.ai and import the ai into RDWorks.

I normally export as a dxf file. Used by most cad programs.
Thanks

One shortcoming with RDWorks is it does not import dfx at the same size in all instance...it will import everything in the same scale but an inch doesn’t always come as an inch.

My understanding is that .dfx files do not contain the units, my programs usually ask what units to use.
How do you like the Automation Laser John? I bought one for my daughter and it has been rock solid for 2-3 years. They are made by Shenhui, I believe.

Even though programs like Inkscape and Illustrator might ask, there is scaling and units built into the dxf's (at least if they are done properly) Below is a code snippet from a recent Fusion 360 exported DXFGene Uselman wrote: Thu Mar 12, 2020 My understanding is that .dfx files do not contain the units, my programs usually ask what units to use.

The section in Blue is the scaling and measurement units for the drawing. Where this sometimes goes wrong is when someone uses a 'saveas' in a non CAD software and it was done in a mix of units.

For fun and entertainment open a DXF in Notepad and take a peek at the actual code sometime

Hi Everyone,
I really like my machine from Automations they are nice people to deal with and the good part is they are about 20 minutes away. Ok I have a question for you and hope I am explaining it right. I am doing cutting in .125 acrylic and getting a step on one side of top surface. It is not real deep but you can see it. It cuts everything with no problem but want to fix the step issue. Will look on here and see if anyone else has had the problem.
Thanks,
John Belue

Not sure what you mean by step- if it is like a shadow it is usually the beam not centered in the nozzle and reflecting. Perhaps post a picture and I am sure you will be helped.
