Z offset

I have been watching Sir Russ' latest videos on lenses with much interest, I noticed he now uses 8 lines [0-8] and his bed drops a mm or so between each line. I think I know how I would do that in RDw... in LBurn- is that what the 'Z offset' for? I am not sure when he started using this for focus calibration but I like it. Gene

in RDWORKS - Pen up and down: If the machine includes a lift platform, this function can be enabled to set a
different platform height during processing. This function enables the write position to be set to a
level such that the auto focus sensor will not interfere with processing of the work piece. If it can be
determined that there is no problem with the processing of the work piece, there is no need to
adjust the pen position. This setting may also be used to de-focus the beam to create wood burning or
possibly laser origami.

LightBurn extends that functionality to use only relative Z moves, so it just runs from your initial focus height. RDWorks uses absolute Z moves, so you have to read the starting height from the machine, or know it already - you can't save a file like this to a UDisk without knowing the Z heights in advance.

LightBurn also has a "Z per pass" feature that will let you make a multi-pass cut while stepping the Z down a given amount between passes, which can help when cutting deep.
