Hello – I found this forum while watching Russ’ videos, which have been very helpful. I’m watching them in chronological order and I’m a bit more than halfway through.

I started laser engraving with a 7W diode attached to a CNC machine using LightBurn. It’s paid for itself, but I hope to add a CO2 laser to my shop within the next month (most likely an OMTech 80W).

Welcome James- one of Russ' latest videos is about buying a Chinese laser and is/should be a must read for anyone thinking about one. As he correctly sez- think about it as buying a pre-assembled kit with many possible qualities of parts and assemblers. Not to dissuade you- it has been very good to me and I have learned a lot and had fun doing it. Gene

Thanks, Gene. I've been watching a few videos out of order and I think that was one of them, but I will make it a point to revisit it before I make a final decision.

I think treating tools like these as "pre-assembled kits" is wise. I'll be adding the machine to my woodworking shop, and I've tweaked/upgraded/modified many of those machines as well.

Thanks for the kind welcome.

James
