Education for us all. It turns out something was wrong with the lense from CloudRay. As mentioned I spoke at length with Lou at Am. Photonics and he was kind of stumped but offered to just let me try a lens to see if it was indeed the lens. I bought one knowing I could return it if it didn't cure the problem.
It cured the problem. No clue what is wrong with the Cloudray lens, but cannot return it due to 1. from china, 2. came as part of a mount that I modified to work on my machine.
Anyhow a huge shout out to Lou D at American Photonics.
