Hi all!
I just recently received my OmTech 60W laser. I was super excited to really dig my teeth into overcoming whatever learning curve there was bound to be. I've worked with a diode laser quite a bit so was familiar (enough) with Lightburn. I was disappointed when I learned I had to fork over another $60 just for Lightburn to recognize DSP, but it is what it is :)

I was surprised to learn that the machine showed up in relatively good alignment. I had to do minimal to adjust the mirrors and really was able to get right to engraving and cutting. I was thrilled! I ran a couple of test pieces and decided to try out the rotary I had purchased with the unit as well. This was what I was most excited about learning as I hadn't used one before. I plugged in the rotary and started working through some of the (user) bugs. After a little while, I was on to knocking out a couple of water bottles for the kids. Everything seemed to be working great. Then....I noticed the designs started to look less and less great and was getting discouraged. After awhile, the design just stopped altogether and would be a singular line. I was confused and frustrated. To curb my frustration, I decided to switch back to the engraving bed. After hooking up all of the necessary cable, I reset the machine to Home everything, and all I got was the X Axis movement. Huh...ok....Power down. Wait for a couple of seconds....Power up...The machine resets and does the exact same thing. I'm now at boiling point. I check my connections and make sure everything is correct. It is. I try to run the test file on the machine and it tells me my X Axis is SLOP. D'ok....I can see my X Axis go to zero on the screen, as does the Y Axis. When I move the X, it moves and the numbers change. When I try to move the Y Axis, it stays in place but the numbers change. I check my limit switches and everything is working/aligned properly. Now, to check my electronics. I open the bay and see there is a RED light next to the GREEN on my Y Axis driver. The X Axis is a single GREEN light. On my motherboard, I see a blinking RED light at #14. I call technical service and it seems like I reached a bunch of high school kids working at a RadioShack (yeah, I'm that old). No one wanted to work through any possible issues and went straight to "We're sending you a new driver". I really don't think it's the driver. Maybe I'm wrong. It feels like a soft reset to me, but maybe I'm wrong. Time shall tell.

So, that's my story of what brought me here!! Ha!

Welcome Zac- I am in Blaine BTW. We recommend that you save your Machine files [per the FAQ section] as they are easy to lose in the early days of pushing buttons to see what they do- and can be hard to rebuild. There are a lot of details about these machines that can be very aggravating... but the good news is you will gain a lot of patience, Let us know how we can help, and stick with it! Gene
