Hi everyone,
I originally purchased an Astroeq and some stepper motors and planned to 3D print the mounts and belt drive similar to the plans on the website.

I took some steppers (https://www.oyostepper.com/goods-88-Nem ... Motor.html) and built his mounts. First test: the mounts didn't move. I adjusted the current limit and managed to get the mounts to move, but the stepper motors got so hot that my plastic mounts started to warp. After reading the FAQ about setting the current limit and making sure it was within spec, the mounts would no longer move.

So I'm wondering if I should adjust the mounts or change the gear ratios? (currently 15 teeth on the motor and 40 on the mount) Or should I just put the stepper motor in the parts bin for another project and buy a larger size?

Note that the cg-4 driver kit can move the mount with no problem.

Accessories: I have a combining lenses, pin tables [homebuilt], honeycomb tables , wireless remote, Modifed Ultimate Air Assist, home built non-powered rotary device, PrusaMK4 and Mini Prusa printers.

I would love to help but that machine is not common in the US- searching for it, I find telescope automation machines. My only thought is I would use PETG for any brkts that may get hot- but the steppers should not get that hot of course. Good luck, maybe a Makerspace could help? Gene
