The Param library was the main reason I switched my laser from Leetro to Ruida DSP- also that the program actually looked and [kinda] acted like a graphics program. And I still think it is a very valuable and powerful feature. I have been adding things to my lib for a year now- early entries did not reflect the [minimal] knowledge I have gained from experimenting and our fine membership- so I finally got around to editing it and thought I would document that process for anyone who might be interested. The Param.lib file will be in your RDworks file (on the 'C' Drive unless you chose a different location) in the RDWorksV8 folder... if you have entered anything in the library- so do that first.

The program I used was Notepad++ which is free and available at their website.

You can edit any of the fields, for instance I went thru all the COM_Blow entries [there is a search function to highlight them all] and changed the engraving entries to 'No' because of my Ultimate Air Assist now in use. You can add headings by using [] around them, and cut and paste different entries for better arrangement. After edit you can paste the file back over the old one.

I like to have two or three RDw programs open most of the time and switch back and forth, but it is confusing for the aged [me] so I loaded RDwV8 three times and labeled them 1,2,3- each will have it's own shortcut, at that point, right click the shortcut and select Properties and change Icon- you can now change to Icon RDW 1 [or 2 or3] the icons are below- if you go into the Vendor file in RDW on 'c' drive and then the Info_En.txt file, #11 will be the RDw version number and you can add a -1,2 or 3 so that the program # will appear at the top of the page when the program is open. That's all folks. Gene

Thanks for this Gene. I came to RDWorksLab today to find out about a different issue but after reading this, I found out my install didn't even have the Param.lib inside the master RDworks folder. Apparently, it's not in the Version 18 or Version 19 installer, so I found a Param.lib file in an earlier version and copy-pasted it into my RDworks Version 19 master folder. I'll play around with it and see if it is working correctly.

I was wondering why my settings would always revert back to 100mm / 30% / 30% whenever I restarted my computer... I got in the habit of creating .rld files for everything I was making, just to preserve the project settings.

The parameter library in ver 18 does not install in the root folder for RDWorks. Search in the “user” folder found in the root directory of c:/

Thanks Pete. I took a look, but I don't see it there. Even did a whole computer search for param.lib files and the only 2 places are in the Rev 10 RDworks install I started with and the copy/paste I did to move it to the RDworks folder on the C:\ root.

Just trying to get the library to work, because I've read that it is great for preserving the complete project settings for re-use. I checked the parameter.lib contents of the file I put in the RDworks master folder, and yep that's what I'm looking for! Just need for RDworks to update the library whenever I work a project.

Perhaps I should move up to a higher rev of RDworks for my machines?

Hey Guys, I am a total newbie - not with computers but with lasers. I cannot find this file anywhere on my computer. I have all kinds of issues with my new laser and I'm wondering if this is a file I need to have.

It ran fine when the guy we bought it from set it up and ran a couple of of things to show me how to use it but now when I turn it on, it's doing something strange. The laser moves to the back right corner and then moves incredibly slowly toward the center. I have no idea what it's doing. The LCD screen says it's resetting but there are no files loaded. It will stop when I hit the escape key. It isn't measuring anything accurately. I had 22" wide piece of wood on it and converted the size of the text I wanted to run to 508 mm wide. When I hit the frame button, it started about an inch from the edge of the board on the one side and then went over the other end probably about 3 in.
I deleted the files that came on the laser from the factory. They were all test files as far as I could tell (the names were in Chinese and the pics that showed were very simple). I didn't change settings on the machine or in RDWorks. There are several config files in the root folder of the software I've looked through but I haven't changed anything in any of those and I don't really see anything that looks like setting parameters.

Any help at all would be hugely appreciated. TIA

The Vendor/User/Machines files are quite different from machine to machine- the size may be the same but some machines home to a different corner-this will be determined by where the limit switches are positioned. Normally when homing the limit switch will stop the movement in X or Y and then back off a small amount and then slowly run back into the limit switch- that will determine the '0' position [there is a setting that may move the starting position a few mm away from the switch in both X and Y. The Z position will be set if there is an upper Z limit switch- otherwise will normally be set to 3000- if your indicators do not reset to '0' your limit switches are bad or some other issue connected to the switch exists.

The Vendor/User/Machine files also make adjustments for the different limit switch types and wiring possibilities- for instance reversing the polarities and directions of movement [this is pretty much a change one setting and then try it to see what it controls, patience is your friend. Each machine is built by different people who may or may not have any knowledge as to what they are doing and why. The cases are often built by one company of welders and painters and the machine assembled with different components [sometime with whatever is handy/cheap at that moment in time] by different people and perhaps marketed by some other group.

So the V/U/M files are only a starting point- you will know more than you want to know about the machines by the time you are functioning again.
That is why we always recommend saving these files before actually working on the machines- and sometime people do... Gene
