I have found that extruded is masked with cheaper materials, normally no company name or logos, often a plastic film which will melt into the cut if it is not removed before lasering. Normally cheaper compared to Cast, which often has paper masking, which become harder to remove as it gets older. If the paper does not come off easily, I normally soak it with an adhesive remover [similar smell to GooGone, which I believe will work as well].
