Ran some tests on the 1.5" (38.1mm) lens that came with my BCL0605MU by shooting pulses at various heights above a piece of card stock as measured from the nozzle tip. I then accurately measured the diameter of the scorched area and the hole with a calibrated digital microscope. I plotted the beam width vs. focus height to see the shape of the beam and to determine the best height for etching and cutting various material thicknesses (for this lens only). Attached is the plot I came up with. The supplied focus bar was 7mm which seems ok for cutting up to 4mm or so, but for 6mm stock, 6mm would be a better choice. Also for etching, the smallest dot size is achieved at a focus height of 9mm.
