Hi all,

I have had my eBay special machine for about 2 months now. I have had a few issues and my most recent has led me to seek help.

I have a red/black 700x500 machine and I am using RDworks 8.01.10 on my laptop (I downloaded the file that came with the machine). I have since downloaded ThunderLaser which I believe is RDWorks V8 to use on my desktop as that is where I use adobe illustrator (I tried to download the file that came with my machine but it wouldn't work for some reason).

However, I was able to create a few files on adobe illustrator and then export them as a dxf and then import them into 'Thunder Laser'. I would then save them as an .rd file to use on my machine.

The problem is that when opening the file on my machine, the design is always displayed as a rectangle box on the controller screen; the design is not a rectangle so i'm confused about this? Also, when I try and run this cut, it says the file is too large for the table (frame slope error).

After varied attempts of cutting, USB, directly from laptop, creating .rd files from each computer, I gave up. I noticed that my 'Thunder Laser' software module was set as '644XG' whereas my laptop software module was set as '644XS'. I had been creating files from each computer so i'm not sure if this has caused some sort of corruption?

As I thought the controller was corrupted I then progressed to just set the controller back to 'default settings'. I didn't want to go as far as 'factory settings'.

However, after the 'default settings' had been set, the X/Y alignment is now completely out. Upon power up the head now moves to the top left as opposed to the top right, the position on the controller is shown as approx 10000mm instead of 0? On power up the laser head even bangs into the side of the machine - it's gone mad...

I have tried contacting the seller on eBay but the 'tech support' isn't the best!

I'm not really sure what to try next. I would really appreciate some guidance!

Kind regards,
Carl.

Save your files as an *.ai vice a *.dxf
ai imports directly into RDWORKS
THe rectangle shows the perimiter of the file imported as the machine views it - it does not mean your file is a rectangle (the system see everything as a X/Y value...the system is looking at the area/2D volume being used by the file.)

DXF files sometime do not import as the size they were created - - ai files typically are 1 for 1 when imported

"it says the file is too large for the table (frame slope error)."

You need an inch or two (50 mm) on all sides for the head to de-accelerate after cutting/scanning
You wil have to rearrange your desing to conform to the workable bed size

Alignment - sounds like your homing position is set incorrectly - - viewtopic.php?f=105&t=3990&p=22312&hili ... ome#p22336

This link discusses a solution one person came up with - you can dowload and install a trial copy of lightburn to see if that will solve your issue

You're right there, I think it was showing a 10000 x 10000 area which is where the slop issue was coming from. I have recently been searching on these forums and found a direct download for the 700x500 ruida controller settings. I have downloaded the vender settings and its worked a dream!

Link:- viewtopic.php?t=3472

Its now homing perfectly and the design is not causing a frame slope error. I'm presuming the 'Thunder Laser' software caused my machine to mess up and lose all of its settings. However, I am now able to cut perfectly using my laptop; RDWorks V8.01.10. I'll give lightburn a try as I don't want to create files on my main desktop, jump onto my laptop then transfer to the cutter - ideally i'd just like to create on my desktop and straight onto my cutter via USB.

Thanks so much for your help Pete - I'll be sure the donate to the forums :D

Cheers,
Carl.

Some may disagree but I beleive RDWorks Version: v8.01.18 is the most stable version or RDWORKS.
Lightburn is a better control software overall if you are going to design and manipulate using the laser control software.
Now that your system is worrking backup your control files for the next time you have an issue

In general, I think you are asking for trouble using that very old version of RDWorks. Problems could be compounded by using another newer software version to create files on your desktop, specifically a program version from ThunderLaser when you don't have one of their lasers, and then bringing the files to the PC next to your laser. Why don't you download the official latest "tested" version of RDWorks for each machine?

After you have that working, do as Pete says and get going with LightBurn.

The RD works version is just the version that came with the cutter so I downloaded it onto my laptop - I did try and find a newer version and was under the impression 'Thunder Laser' was just that. I was going to upgrade my copy on the laptop to 'Thunder laser' aswell so they were the same.

I will get that copy of the RDWorks you have recommended and install it on both pc's. Thanks for your help!

Personally, I'm using 8.01.24 and I have no issues. But I don't mean to contradict Pete's advice - the "newest" version of RD Works is not necessarily the "best" or "most stable" version.

I'd definitely upgrade from 8.01.10. And I'd definitely use the same version on both of your computers.

I haven't used anything BUT v8.01.18. My view is based upon the fact that several suppliers of Lasers have been offering 18 for several years and I presumed they did so because they 18 had the least problems. The only thing in life I am absolutely certain of is which way is up^.

I learned long ago I don't know everything and some of the things I thought I understood continue to prove I was clueless - I don't feel bad about learning or not knowing it all...yet:)

The link to download 8.01.33 is listed right below .41 if you want a version that has been out for quite a while. It is worked fine for me.

Hmm. That's not what I wrote. Looks like the stuff I wrote got mixed in with a quote from someone else (probably my fault).

The part I wrote was,"Personally, I'm using 8.01.24 and I have no issues. But I don't mean to contradict Pete's advice - the "newest" version of RD Works is not necessarily the "best" or "most stable" version.
