Hi folks
Peter here from down under and the home of Further Fabrication. I am a retired hobbyist Maker and have been gradually scratching all the itches developed over my lifetime.
First and foremost I am a woodworker, that evolved into making and flying RC aircraft. I am also into HO scale model trains which has consequently led me down the Arduino rabbit hole.
My daughter bought me an Anet A8 3D printer 3 years ago which I converted to an AM8 and I am currently building a Core XY printer mostly from scratch. I use 3D Printing to design and manufacture a wide variety of parts, components and jigs and spent part of lock down making over 100 visors for the local medical centers, chemists and supermarket. 3d printing has taken me down the Fusion 360 rabbit hole with several years of learning still required to become even close to proficient.
Last year I added a bench milling machine and metal lathe to my shop which has proven an invaluable adjunct to all my other interests.
Laser cutting has been an itch waiting to be scratched since I lived in OZ in the mid 90s. A friend there had an Epilog laser. Clearly, making model aircraft and model trains has added a huge longing to have a laser cutting capability but the cost has always been prohibitive. A few years ago I was introduced to the K40 Laser and while the price was OK the capabilities seemed a bit too limited. I downloaded Further Fabrication's plan for the Y400 but the costs were again heading into the stratosphere. I now have on order a Chinese 600 x 400 50 watt??? machine (Same as Russ's) that should be here late this month. In the meantime I have been gradually working through his RD Works you tube videos and hence my arrival here.

Welcome Peter. We share similar interests in machinery/tooling. Lasers open many more opportunities for many endeavors and make lots things easier to do many tasks.
