No crazy mods yet since I'm still trying to get the mirror alignment as spot on as humanly possible but I did add some ruled guides to the bed. I bought some aluminum rulers at the hardware store and cut them to make the guides. I realize the one on top is backwards but they didn't have one going the other way. I masked my laser bed, cut a rectangle the size of the bed into the masking and used that as a guide to stick the rulers down with double sided tape.

Amazon has right to left and left to right reading self adhesive measuring tape. Used those on my diy table saw crosscut sled. Found they also worked well on my lifting table. Lay blue painters tape down, run a burn down the axis, tear off the outside portion and position the ruled tape in its place. Use according to whatever corner you choose as your home position.
