Hi,

I’m new to laser and RDWorks, so please bear with me if I’ve done something wrong.

I’ve made a new little project and hit file and save and just asked for it to be saved to my desktop.
I’ve then closed the file down and reopened it and it’s coming up with the following error message

File format error! Please check version.
I hit ok
And it doesn’t open it.

So now I can’t open my little project and I have to remake it.
Can anyone please guide me in either what I’m doing wrong or what I need to do.

I downloaded the program from here on Sunday V8.01.26

I’m using this version because the where I got my laser from Scott uses this version and is helping me to learn the program.
I even sent my project to him and he can’t open it on his end.

The only really weird thing I’ve noticed is every time I open RDWorks it comes up with the following message

Do you want to allow this app from an unknown publisher to make changes to your device.
RDWorksV8.exe

If I hit No it closes the program.
If I hit Yes it opens it and I can do as I like.

Please can anyone help me

RDWorks is terrible at handling many common file formats. Even the ones that "work" often only work/save as very old file standards. The .26 version you are using is really old, and if I remember right, was a rather buggy release. You should upgrade to a current release and try that.

If you are going to use your machine for anything more than a once-in-a-moon hobby project, you should invest in LightBurn. I am not one to spend money unnecessarily, but LightBurn is probably about the best bang for your buck you can invest in your laser. Do it now so that you are investing your learning time on a quality piece of software that is continuously being developed. Investing your learning time in RDWorks is like investing your learning time today to learn Windows 95. Investing your learning time in Lightburn is like investing your learning time on Windows 10.

Thank You Doug, I have downloaded the lightburn software. But while im learning. Scott who will be teaching me how to use it (ive bought my laser from scott) uses RD Works and this is the version he has so im trying to stay in alignment with him so we have the same software while im getting used to it. Then ill move over to Lightburn later. But i fully appreciate your help.

Scott has just sent me a file from his computer and i can open it on mine here. But he cant open what im email him on his. And we have checked we both have the same version. I think i am saving it right as per the instructions. But its not working on his end or my end. I am using Windows 10 so im hoping that isnt an issue within itself
