I read a lot on a kindle e-reader and often go to my favorite bar for a couple draft beers with it, very enjoyable. I bought this stand from Banggood in china and have really liked it and it is well thought out and... why not make one out of wood? I did a very rough proto from .25" oak/mdf plywood and decided to make it from 1/16" walnut- 3 layers glued together. I am fond of pegging things together with wood dowels [1/8"] for the prototype phase and with brass rods for finished pieces. Each layer is slightly different to allow .045" brass rods for hinges and allow different features. You might think that this would be time consuming... you would be correct... but fun. Here is a pict of the alum orig in my next to final stand- I will test it to be sure it works as envisioned.
.
The pieces were all cut together [in layers] and the space between the pieces came out in a very interesting single piece- almost art. I also make a lot of my own tools and the other pict is hard to understand but it is very small .177" plastic pieces [the longest one here is one inch] with .045" holes for small brass or copper rods or tubes [!] to hold them together like rivets.
.
So now you know how old men with lots of time, waste their time.
Yet another project that did not need to be done
