In the 6445g settings for auto-focus, there is a material thickness setting. What is this used for. Do you set this for every material, before you cut, or is this for calibration? The only answers I've found, outside of this forum equate to "Leave it at zero." That's not very helpful...

1. We have a revised user manual you may find to be of use - it explains many things better than the default user manual.
it was written for ver 19 of RDWORKS but the concepts carry through even if some of the feature s are a bit different in newer versions.
2. the Auto Focus is shunned by many but not me. It's function is to correctly set the focal distance between the material to be cut/engraved and the laser head. Focal distance is that distance between the material to be lasered and the lens that optimally focuses the laser to work best.
Consider a magnifying glass - you adjust the distance between the lens and the material being inspected to create a sharp view...that is the focal distance
The auto focus is a value the user determine (by various ways) that is best for him/her and programs that value into the vendor setting. thereafter whe the user selects "autofocus" the machine with measure and adjust the laser head the distance programed. If yo program a crappy value then you engraving will be crappy. The machine will only function as well as you program it
corrected user manual here
