Hey guys! I am brand spanking new to the forum and can’t wait to get submerged into all things related to lasers! I’m one of 4 brothers who started the Feld Shop, a new business developed from 20+ years of experience in the world of woodworking, electronics and design. I recently entered an Instagram contest and won a Laguna TX 40w 12x20 CO2 laser and can’t wait to put it to use! I joined RDworks Lab in hopes of learning how to use one of these modern-day machines as well as share my/our experiences and along the way!

I’m currently using RDWorks 8 (it was recommended by Laguna) but curious about Light Burn. What’s the preferred choice here? I’ve got some current issues and don’t know if it’s a software or hardware issue. Thanks in advance!
Eric :-)

Welcome Eric. Depending on what you already have for design software Lightburn is much better than RDWORKS.
I only use RDWORKS to format files I have created in other software for the laser.

Control Software: LIGHTBURN
RDWorks Version: RDw .19 & Lightburn
LightBurn Version: Latest
Ruida Controller: RDC6442
Windows Version: Win 10 Pro
Accessories: I have a combining lenses, pin tables [homebuilt], honeycomb tables , wireless remote, Modifed Ultimate Air Assist, home built non-powered rotary device, PrusaMK4 and Mini Prusa printers.

I would also say that Lightburn has many [maybe most] of the graphic creation features needed- RDworks is vary basic and I might add annoying in this respect. I don't even try to correct anything that I import into RDw- it is easier and quicker to fix it in another program.

Thanks for the reply Pete! It’s good to be here! :-) The plan for RDworks was just to use it as a means to send data to the laser, but even that, I’m having trouble with. I currently use Adobe Illustrator for graphics creation. I don’t particularly like the way the RDworks manual has been written as some of the language doesn’t make sense to me....

Thanks for the reply Gene! Yea, I figured out pretty quickly that I wasn’t going to be using RDworks to create anything! HA! Annoying is an understatement! ;-)
